Message from the COMAH & Pipelines Professional Working Group (PWG)

    19 November 2008

To coincide with the 3rd anniversary of the Buncefield explosion, the Department of Work & Pensions (Lead Government Dept. for the HSE) has issued 'The Buncefield Investigation - the Government and Competent Authority's Response' in response to the recommendations of the Major Incident Investigation Board (MIIB). The report can be downloaded at: http://www.ukresilience.gov.uk/news/buncefield_report.aspx The COMAH & Pipelines PWG are currently studying the report and its implications for EPS members and will be seeking a meeting with the CCS and other key stakeholders in early 2009 to discuss and agree a way forward on the key issues. To inform these discussions we would welcome EPS members' comments, views, concerns and suggestions, so please do post them on the Discussion Board (http://www.the-eps.org/discussion-board/12/267/) or email them to the group's Secretary at: eddie.clarke@essex.pnn.police.uk. We look forward to hearing from you.

The Pitt Review - EPS Briefing Note - Lessons Learned from 2007 Floods

    14 February 2008

Following the flooding in June and July 2007, Sir Michael Pitt was commissioned to undertake an urgent review of the multi-agency response and recovery thus far. The Interim Report was published on Dec 17th (see http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/thepittreview/interim_report.aspx) with the final report due for publication later in 2008. The report makes 15 urgent recommendations (see Annex, pp4-5) and 72 associated Interim Conclusions. These are strategic in nature but the overwhelming majority has implications for Emergency Planners in the UK, and the Republic of Ireland and, indeed, across the globe.
